1. What Is Monad?
Monad is a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain designed to challenge the assumption that blockchains must sacrifice decentralization or compatibility to achieve higher performance.
It preserves the familiar EVM environment while redesigning the consensus, execution, database, and networking layers to process transactions more efficiently.
Rather than optimizing for a single use case, Monad aims to provide a general-purpose platform where trading, payments, DeFi, RWAs, and other applications can share liquidity and state within one integrated execution environment.
The key features of Monad include:
- Full EVM Compatibility: Monad supports EVM bytecode and Ethereum RPC interfaces, allowing Ethereum applications to migrate with minimal or no code changes. Developers and users can also continue using familiar tools such as MetaMask and Etherscan.
- Sub-Second User Experience: Monad offers a designed capacity of up to 10,000 TPS, 300ms block times, and 600ms deterministic finality. Its low latency and near-zero fees make it suitable for applications such as real-time trading and payments, where responsiveness is critical.
- Performance Without Infrastructure Concentration: Monad is designed to run on commodity hardware rather than relying on specialized machines or validator colocation. Around 200 independent validators across more than 30 countries currently help secure the network.
- An Integrated General-Purpose Environment: Instead of fragmenting applications and liquidity across multiple purpose-built chains or rollups, Monad seeks to support diverse onchain services within a single high-performance environment. This allows applications to share state and liquidity while preserving the benefits of synchronous composability.
2. How Does Monad Work?
Monad separates consensus, which determines the official ordering of transactions, from execution, which applies those transactions and updates the blockchain state. Once the network agrees on transaction ordering, nodes execute the same ordered transactions in parallel and independently calculate the same resulting state.
Its core architecture consists of the following components:
- MonadBFT: A leader is selected for each round according to stake weight. The leader proposes a block, and validators evaluate the proposal before sending signed votes to the next leader. Once votes representing at least two-thirds of the network’s stake are collected, they are aggregated into a Quorum Certificate, or QC. This leader-based voting flow avoids the communication overhead of having every validator send messages to every other validator.
- RaptorCast: Block proposals are divided into erasure-coded chunks and distributed through a two-level broadcast tree. This design uses the combined upload bandwidth of the validator network instead of placing the entire burden on the leader, allowing large blocks to propagate quickly and reliably.
- Asynchronous and Parallel Execution: Consensus can progress without waiting for the previous block’s execution to finish. During execution, optimistic parallel processing allows independent transactions to run simultaneously. If transactions conflict over the same state, only the affected transactions are re-executed against the corrected state.
- Role of Validators: Validators take turns proposing blocks according to their stake weight, evaluate proposals from other leaders, and submit signed consensus votes. They also execute transactions in the agreed order and maintain the network’s replicated state. Delegated MON determines voting weight and influences leader selection, making reliable validator operations and broadly distributed delegation essential to Monad’s security and decentralization.
3. Why Is FP Validated Joining Monad Network?
FP Validated sees significant potential in Monad’s ability to scale EVM performance while preserving developer portability, composability, and an open validator network. In particular, we believe a general-purpose blockchain that combines high throughput and low latency with decentralized operation can serve as important infrastructure for real-time onchain trading, payments, and institutional financial applications.
Monad also represents an important test of whether an integrated general-purpose Layer 1 can remain competitive as the blockchain market increasingly shifts toward specialized execution environments. FP Validated aims to support Monad over the long term as it moves beyond technical performance and works to establish sustainable applications and organic network demand.
Our contribution will extend beyond operating reliable validator infrastructure. We also plan to participate actively in research, governance, and broader ecosystem development.
