FP Validated Joins Sei, the High-Performance EVM Layer 1 for Onchain Finance, as a Validator

1. What Is Sei?

Sei is a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain designed to bring latency-sensitive applications, including trading and financial services, onchain.

Sei V2 combines EVM compatibility with parallelized execution, allowing developers to use existing Ethereum smart contracts and development tools while benefiting from higher throughput and fast finality.

Today, Sei is evolving beyond a fast EVM network into infrastructure for onchain markets spanning stablecoins, DeFi, payments, and tokenized assets. At the same time, the network is progressively introducing Sei Giga, a major upgrade that redesigns its execution, storage, and consensus architecture.

The key features of Sei include:

  1. Performance Optimized for Onchain Finance: Fast finality and high processing capacity make Sei well suited to latency-sensitive applications such as trading, lending, and payments.
  2. Compatibility with the Ethereum Developer Stack: Sei supports Solidity smart contracts and widely used EVM tools, including MetaMask, enabling Ethereum developers to deploy applications without adopting an entirely new programming environment.
  3. Growing Financial and Liquidity Infrastructure: Integrations including native USDC, CCTP V2, major oracle networks, and crosschain infrastructure provide a foundation for DeFi, payments, and institution-facing financial services.
  4. An In-Place Transition to Giga: Rather than launching a separate chain or requiring applications and liquidity to migrate to a new network, Sei is introducing Giga through a series of upgrades to its existing mainnet. This approach is intended to preserve the current ecosystem while expanding the network’s performance.

2. How Does Sei Work?

The current Sei mainnet operates through delegated proof-of-stake and an optimized Tendermint BFT consensus architecture. It combines this consensus layer with parallel transaction execution and a purpose-built database, while the Giga components are being introduced progressively across execution, storage, and eventually consensus.

Its core architecture consists of the following components:

  1. Twin Turbo Consensus: Sei currently uses Twin Turbo, which aggressively pipelines the proposal, voting, and commit stages of Tendermint BFT. Its close integration with parallel execution helps the network achieve short block times and fast finality.
  2. Parallel Execution and Ares: Sei processes non-conflicting transactions concurrently across multiple CPU cores. If state conflicts are detected, the affected transactions are re-executed to produce the same deterministic outcome as sequential processing. With Sei v6.6 in August 2026, Ares, the new Giga execution engine, became the default execution path for upgraded nodes.
  3. SeiDB and Eidos: SeiDB separates state storage from state commitment to reduce data-access bottlenecks during parallel execution. Eidos, Giga’s new storage layer, is designed to move EVM history into a dedicated database so historical queries no longer compete with live transaction processing. Its migration is currently being rolled out in phases on mainnet.
  4. Role of Validators: Validators propose blocks, verify transactions, and sign consensus messages according to the amount of SEI staked and delegated to them. They also implement network upgrades and participate in governance, supporting both the day-to-day security and long-term development of the network.

Autobahn, the final major component of Giga, has not yet been activated on mainnet. Once introduced, it is expected to replace the current single-proposer model with a multi-proposer architecture in which validators submit transactions concurrently and consensus first determines their ordering before execution occurs. According to Sei’s official documentation, an internal 40-node devnet sustained more than 5 gigagas per second with ordering finality below 250 milliseconds. These figures are devnet results and should not be interpreted as the performance of the current mainnet.

3. Why Is FP Validated Joining Sei Network?

FP Validated sees significant potential in Sei’s ability to preserve the accessibility of the EVM developer ecosystem while delivering the performance required for onchain finance at the Layer 1 level. In particular, the combination of native USDC, crosschain liquidity infrastructure, institutional custody support, and financial applications indicates that Sei could evolve beyond a high-performance blockchain into an execution environment for global financial activity.

Sei is also undertaking the technically demanding process of replacing its execution, storage, and consensus components while keeping the live network and its ecosystem operational. During this transition, professional validators capable of applying upgrades safely and maintaining secure key management, monitoring, and consensus participation will play an increasingly important role.

Our contribution will extend beyond operating reliable validator infrastructure. We also plan to participate actively in research, governance, and broader ecosystem development.
