FP Validated Joins Sui, a Full-Stack Layer 1 for Digital Assets and Autonomous Applications, as a Validator

1. What Is Sui?

Sui is a Layer 1 blockchain designed to make the ownership, transfer, and use of digital assets fast and intuitive, even for applications operating at large scale.

Unlike blockchains that organize state primarily around account balances, Sui represents onchain assets and data as independent objects. Combined with Sui Move, this model enables clear ownership rules and allows operations that do not conflict with one another to be processed simultaneously.

Sui is now expanding beyond DeFi and gaming into payments, tokenized financial products, data, privacy, and AI agents, evolving from a standalone blockchain into an integrated infrastructure stack for digital assets.

The key features of Sui include:

  1. User-Friendly Onboarding: zkLogin and passkeys allow users to access blockchain applications through familiar authentication methods. Sponsored transactions also let applications cover gas fees on behalf of users, reducing the friction associated with creating a wallet and acquiring a native token.
  2. Transaction-Level Composability: Programmable Transaction Blocks allow multiple smart contract calls and asset transfers to be bundled into a single atomic transaction. Complex DeFi operations and in-game interactions can therefore be completed with one signature, without the risk of only part of the process being executed.
  3. An Integrated Full-Stack Infrastructure: Sui is expanding beyond its execution environment to include DeepBook for onchain liquidity, Walrus for data storage, Seal for access-controlled encryption, and Nautilus for verifiable offchain computation.
  4. A Growing Range of Real-World Applications: The Sui ecosystem is expanding from DeFi and gaming into institutional payments, tokenized funds, Bitcoin finance, and AI agent applications. This demonstrates how Sui’s performance can support practical financial and consumer services, rather than serving only as a technical benchmark.

2. How Does Sui Work?

A transaction submitted by a user is forwarded through a full node to a validator and sequenced through Mysticeti consensus. Validators then execute the transaction deterministically, and the transaction reaches finality when it is included in a checkpoint certified by a quorum of validators.

Its core architecture consists of the following components:

  1. Object-Centric Data Model and Sui Move: Assets and onchain data are stored as objects with unique IDs, owners, and version numbers. Sui Move treats assets as resources that cannot be arbitrarily copied or deleted, while smart contracts define the operations that can be performed on each object.
  2. Dependency-Based Parallel Execution: Sui identifies which objects each transaction reads or modifies. Transactions involving the same object are executed in a consistent order, while transactions involving unrelated objects can run in parallel across multiple cores, allowing throughput to scale with network activity.
  3. Mysticeti Consensus and Checkpoints: Validators propose blocks in parallel within a directed acyclic graph and reference blocks proposed by their peers. Mysticeti minimizes separate block-certification steps and can commit blocks in three message rounds. Finalized transactions are then recorded in regularly produced checkpoints.
  4. Role of Validators: Sui uses Delegated Proof-of-Stake, with each validator’s voting power determined by the amount of SUI delegated to it. Validators verify transactions, participate in Mysticeti consensus, execute committed transactions, and sign checkpoints. They also evaluate peer performance, contribute to reference gas price formation, and maintain the operational and economic security of the network.
